What is the youngest age you accept?
We currently accept childern as young as 5.
Am I too old to do this?
No. As long as you have no serious impediment to your ability to move, you are not too old. We have proudly trainined students even in their sixties and seventies. Jhoon Rheen, the father of American Tae Kwon Do is well into his seventies and still going strong. If you still have concerns, consult your physician before beginning training. Your physician is welcome to call us with any questions.
Do families get a discount?
Yes. Please call or email to get more information.
Can I come watch a class?
Yes. Please do.
Do you do a lot of tournements?
The emphasis of our program is on self-defense skills. We will occassionaly cover sport karate, but this will always be secondary to the more important aspects of our art.
Do you have cardio kickboxing classes?
No, but you still get a pretty good workout with our classes. We invite you to join on one of our introductory specials to see if our classes give you what you want.
Do you train full-contact kickboxing?
No. Our system has produced many championship kickboxers, but we no longer train for that sport. The primary reason is that the training which goes into it can be dangerous to your long-term bone and joint health.
What is the difference between Tae Kwon Do and Karate?
Karate is a Japanese word for empty-hand fighting systems that developed in Japan and Okinawa (Karate is the Japanese word for "empty hand"). Japanese karate is one of many important influences on Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do originated in Korea, borrowing from Japanese, Okinawan, and Chinese systems, with a strong emphasis on kicking.
In America, the term karate is often used as a catch-all term for empty hand fighting arts that emphasize strikes with the hands and feet.
