Kata are an ancient and very tradtional method of martial arts training, and a very important one. Kata training builds balance, coordination, endurance, and focus. Kata improves the student's footwork, speed, and develops a thorough understanding of strategy. There is literally no aspect of martial arts skill that will not be greatly improved by proper dedication to kata practice.
Kata is a Japanese term. In Korean, kata is also called hyung, poomses, and tul.
