Chon Ji

Heaven and Earth

Summary: Chon Ji ("Heaven and Earth") is the first kata in the original Tae Kwon Do katas, known as the Chang Han Forms. It is a very formal and traditional kata, elegant and simple. Chon Ji helps introduce Orange Belt students to the Front Stance and aids in building fluid footwork and strong balance.
  1. Fold the left hand high, the right hand low. Pivot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Front Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Low Block. Kihap.
  2. Extend the left arm. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand Middle Punch.
  3. Fold the right hand high, the left hand low. Stepping with the right foot and pivoting on the left, turn ½ turn towards the right into a Right Front Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Low Block.
  4. Extend the right arm. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand Middle Punch.
  5. Fold the left hand high, the right hand low. Pivot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Front Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Low Block.
  6. Extend the left arm. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand Middle Punch.
  7. Fold the right hand high, the left hand low. Stepping with the right foot and pivoting on the left, turn ½ turn towards the right into a Right Front Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Low Block.
  8. Extend the right arm. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand Middle Punch. Kihap.
  9. Fold the left hand low, the right hand high. Pivotting on your right foot, step with your left foot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Back Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Scoop Block.
  10. Extend the left arm. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand Middle Punch.
  11. Fold the right hand low, the left hand high. Pivotting on your left foot, step with your right foot ½ turn to the right into a Right Back Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Scoop Block.
  12. Extend the right arm. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while performing a Left-Hand Middle Punch.
  13. Fold the left hand low, the right hand high. Pivotting on your right foot, step with your left foot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Back Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Scoop Block.
  14. Extend the left arm. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while performing a Right-Hand Middle Punch.
  15. Fold the right hand low, the left hand high. Pivotting on your left foot, step with your right foot ½ turn to the right into a Right Back Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Scoop Block.
  16. Extend the right arm. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while performing a Left-Hand Middle Punch.
  17. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while performing a Right-Hand Middle Punch.
  18. Step backwards with the right foot into a Left Front Stance while performing a Left-Hand Middle Punch.
  19. Step backwards with the left foot into a Right Front Stance while performing a Right-Hand Middle Punch. Kihap.
