Tan Gun

Required for: Green Belt
Summary: Tan Gun is named for the legendary founder of Korea. It introduces the student to more advanced combinations of blocking and footwork, and deals with defending against simultaneous attacks.
  1. Fold both open hands towards the right. Pivot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Back Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Knife Hand Block. Kihap.
  2. Extend the left arm in a fist while bringing the right fist to Chamber Position. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand High Punch.
  3. Open both hands and fold towards the left. Stepping with the right foot and pivoting on the left, turn ½ turn towards the right into a Right Back Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Knife Hand Block.
  4. Extend the right arm. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand High Punch.
  5. Fold the left hand high, the right hand low. Pivot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Front Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Low Block.
  6. Extend the left arm. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand High Punch.
  7. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand High Punch.
  8. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand High Punch. Kihap.
  9. Bring the right fist to Chamber Position. Fold the left hand on top of the right hand in a Vertical Fist position. Stepping with the left foot and pivoting on the right, turn towards the rear left ¾ turn (turning counter-clockwise when seen from above) into a Left Back Stance. Perform a Left Side Box Block.
  10. Extend the left arm in a fist while bringing the right fist to Chamber Position. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand High Punch.
  11. Fold the right hand in a Vertical Fist position on top of the left hand (which remains in Chamber Position. Stepping with the right foot and pivoting on the left, turn ½ turn towards the right into a Right Back Stance. Perform a Right Side Box Block.
  12. Extend the right arm in a fist while bringing the left fist to Chamber Position. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand High Punch.
  13. Fold the left hand high, the right hand low. Pivot ¼ turn to the left into a Left Front Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Low Block.
  14. Without stepping, fold the left hand low and the right hand high. Perform a Left-Hand High Block.
  15. Fold the right hand low, the left hand high. Step forward with the right foot into a Right Front Stance. Perform a Right-Hand High Block.
  16. Fold the left hand low and the right hand high. Step forward with the left foot into a Left Front Stance. Perform a Left-Hand High Block.
  17. Fold the right hand low, the left hand high. Step forward with the right foot into a Right Front Stance. Perform a Right-Hand High Block.
  18. Fold the left hand high in a Knife Hand position. Fold the right hand low in a fist. Stepping with the left foot and pivoting on the right, turn towards the rear left ¾ turn (turning counter-clockwise when seen from above) into a Left Back Stance. Perform a Left-Hand Knife Hand Strike at shoulder level.
  19. Close the left hand into a fist. Step forwards with the right foot into a Right Front Stance while peforming a Right-Hand High Punch.
  20. Fold the right hand high in a Knife Hand position. Fold the left hand low in a fist. Stepping with the right foot and pivoting on the left, turn ½ turn towards the right into a Right Back Stance. Perform a Right-Hand Knife Hand Strike.
  21. Close the right hand into a fist. Step forwards with the left foot into a Left Front Stance while peforming a Left-Hand High Punch. Kihap.
